Let the Circle Be Unbroken is the sequel to the widely praised Roll of Thunder, chronicling the narrative of the Logan family in Mississippi during the Great Depression. The kids, particularly Cassie, are content in their warm, secure home, but there is an atmosphere of fear and anxiety outside. T.J., one of their friends, is put on trial for murder in front of an all-white jury. Cousin Suzella attempts to pass for white, but fails miserably. Cassie and her cousin are evicted from their house after Cassie’s neighbor speaks up for her right to vote. Cassie is learning what it means to be black and helpless as she grows older, but her family stands united, demonstrating that strength, love, and understanding can overcome even the most entrenched s tereotypes.
